I have always loved reading short stories; for me, they are a snapshot of time, place and scene combined with a glimpse into a character’s life without any preconceptions of what has gone on before the story begins and an open invitation to imagine what could happen once the story comes to an end.
Because it never really does.
Plus you don’t have worry about remembering all the different character names from five chapters ago and how they fit into that 350-page novel!

And like poetry, short stories are written with an economy of words which are thoughtfully and precisely chosen to not only transport us to a different reality very quickly, but also to elicit our emotional engagement through descriptions, character behavior and dialogue in under 30 pages. It’s not easy to do, and I have never done it. But in the spirit of being Fearless, I plan to do it right here, and your feedback will be welcome
as I begin this creative journey.
